October 12, 2008: No rain since August 20th. Thought there would be enough moisture in the soil to bring up the oats we are planting, but hasn't worked like that. I have about 20-30 days of grazing left for my grass-feds. Usually if we don't have rain prior to Oct 10 we don't count on grazing oats until late January or February, even if we get rain soon after the 10th. Cool/cold nights keep things from growing rapidly. We are about finished with the fall plantings. One thing for sure, if the seed isn't in the ground, and you get rain, you won't have growth. So we will take our chances.

LOOKING FOR NATURAL, NON CHEMICAL HAY?

Call me at 512-636-3711. We have a couple of producers who are on our SGTx organic soil fertility program (you can call the same number to learn more about that, too.). They really got a bunch of hay this second cutting. Pretty nice stuff. Not wrapped in netting. Price ranges from $45-$60 round bale, fob their places. If looking for hay now is a good time to get some delivered to you.
