Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are you certified organic?
No, we are in 'transition' - meaning we no longer use herbicides for weed or insect control but we are still using a small amount of inorganic fertilizer. As our improved soil biology increases, we will also stop that practice. However, all other cultural practices on the farm are moving toward the organic standard, with one exception. We will not feed any corn to our animals nor will we place them in a feedlot to finish.
Q. Do you really believe what you are doing is making any difference nutritionally or environmentally?
Yes, we do - passionately. We believe we are being good stewards of the land, producing beef we want our children and grandchildren to eat, treating the animals we tend with care and respect.
Q. How is your beef priced compared to grocery stores?
You won't find much of this type beef in the stores because we cannot produce the huge volumes required. Actually our beef sells for about the same price as supermarket top of the line beef.
Q3. What do you do with your sick animals?
We seldom have sick animals, but if we do, we pull them out of the Grass-fed herd, treat them and turn them into our commercial herd of yearlings. They will be sold at the auction barn and eventually sent to the feed lots.
Q4. Will you sell a beef on the hoof?
Yes, we will. Please call (512-862-3240) to discuss it with us. Usually we will transport your steer to the processor plant for you. Prices depend upon whether you want a steer from our Grass-fed herd or our regular yearling herd.
Q5. Do you have any available employment positions?
Not at this time, but if you will email us with your name, phone number and address and your interest, we will put you on the list in case we need someone.
Q6. How do I buy and take delivery of our fine meat?
Place an online order, or call/fax in an order. We can ship within the United States, make deliveries to the Georgetown/Round Rock area for a fee, and work with several local retailers who stock our beef on-site. You may purchase from us at the farm, but please call first to make sure we are here and that we have time to visit with you.
Q7. What happens if I buy some beef and don't like it?
We will regret that, of course, but we always offer a 30-day money back guarantee for any unused portion returned in good, frozen condition. We urge everyone to let us know immediately if there is any kind of problem with the meat. (And you can tell us if you like it, too.)
Q8. Is your name really Betsy Ross?
Yes, it's my maiden name. My sister, Kathryn came home from school the day I was born and guess what? The lesson at school was about Betsy Ross - so that's what they named me. I have had a lot of fun with my name through the years.
